Low Newton, 10th Nov 2009

Low Newton seems to be a big pile of STRING at the moment !!

The last few days I have had to endure reports of sabine's gulls, water pipit, black redstart and shorelark all at Low Newton !! WTF ?!!

Between us, me and my mate Bazza have covered this area well the last few days, but these reports seem to come in on the days when we were not there..... TYPICAL !!

4 decent birds in as many days.... surely at least one would still be lingering ? This afternoon I spent an hour grilling the beach for some of these birds........ All I got was a big pile of rock pipits and few waders (including 9 purple sands).......

I gave up and went down the pool instead....... which was shit too by the way !!..... Best birds seen here were a gadwall and goldeneye.....

"Look at my big black arse...."

Muddy brown looking eye.....

So Whats the score then ?..... and who are all these birders visiting my patch and seeing good birds while I see nowt ?

Today the official view came from the Newton Stringer self appointed 1 man records committee.... The committee reported that it has now carefully assessed each record and considers them all unproven..... or as I like to say..... REJECTED !!

During a press conference today Mr Stringer said......

"Until firm photographic evidence surfaces in conjunction with a full written description including a feather by feather account of these birds, we must consider them extremely dubious. The total lack of evidence (plus the fact that I didn't actually see any of these birds myself) leads the committee (me) to the conclusion that there's a lot of string around...."

Mr Stringer continued....

".....This is an extremely worrying situation if an infestation of string gets out of hand we could end up with another North Norfolk on our hands......... at this stage we are not sure if we are dealing with a well organised team of stringers, or just one big KING OF STRING operating in the area."
